A pintura da carroceria \u00e9 composta por milh\u00f5es de microc\u00e1psulas, que tem di\u00e2metro equivalente \u00e0 espessura de um fio de cabelo humano. Cada uma dessas microc\u00e1psulas cont\u00e9m pigmentos brancos com carga negativa e pigmentos pretos com carga positiva. Dependendo da configura\u00e7\u00e3o escolhida, basta um est\u00edmulo por meio de um campo el\u00e9trico para que os pigmentos brancos ou pretos se acumulem na superf\u00edcie da microc\u00e1psula para dar \u00e0 carroceria do carro a tonalidade desejada.
